My Teenage Son Mowed Our Lonely Neighbor's Lawn For Free Every Saturday For 4 Years – At The Old Man's Funeral, A Lawyer Handed Him An Envelope And Said, "He Left Very Specific Instructions For You."

PART 5

Preston came back two weeks later, this time with Diane, and this time they didn't come to argue.

They came with a box.

"We went through his workshop," Diane said, setting it carefully on our kitchen table. "In the garage. Found this tucked behind some old paint cans."

Inside were photographs — dozens of them, printed from a digital camera Arthur had apparently bought sometime in the last several years without either of his children knowing. Every single one was of Jonah. Jonah pushing the mower across the lawn. Jonah wiping sweat off his forehead in July. Jonah, once, laughing at something off-camera, caught mid-motion in a way that made it clear whoever took the picture had been watching closely, patiently, for exactly the right second.

"He never showed us any of this," Preston said. "Never mentioned taking them. There's over two hundred photos in that box, going back almost four years."
