In December 2024, nearly five years after reconnecting over dinner right before the pandemic, actor Rex Linn privately got down on one knee and asked Reba McEntire to marry him. Their relationship had been built slowly since early 2020, when lockdowns kept them in separate states and forced them to spend months talking for hours each day over video calls. That quiet foundation carried them through grief, career shifts, and everyday life away from the cameras. Over the four years that followed, their partnership naturally extended into their work. The two shared the screen as a married couple in the television drama Big Sky and later starred together in the sitcom Happy’s Place, bringing the easy rhythm of their home life onto the set. Both in their late sixties, McEntire and Linn had already walked through decades of life, loss, and past heartbreaks before finding their way back to each other. For a woman known to millions as one of country music’s strongest voices, life with Linn offered a private place where she did not have to carry everything alone. Linn chose a quiet, intimate setting away from the media to present the ring, surrounded by the blessing of their longtime friends and family. Accepting that proposal in her late sixties, McEntire stepped into a new chapter with the friend who had stood beside her through the hardest seasons of her life.

Weeks after their January 2020 dinner in Los Angeles, McEntire’s mother, Jacqueline, passed away in March just as pandemic travel shutdowns separated the pair across state lines. With Linn in California and McEntire quarantining in Oklahoma, they built their relationship over daily morning phone and FaceTime calls they called “Coffee Camp,” talking for hours before they could reunite in person that summer.

Over the next four years, that daily companionship carried over into their screen work. Having both navigated decades in the industry—including McEntire’s divorces from Charlie Battles in 1987 and Narvel Blackstock in 2015, and Linn’s ended engagement in 2010—they found an easy rhythm working side by side on camera.

In the fall of 2022, they played married backcountry outfitters Sunny and Buck Barnes during the third season of the ABC drama *Big Sky: Deadly Trails*. A few months later, in January 2023, they shared the screen again in the Lifetime television movie *The Hammer*, with McEntire starring as a circuit judge in Nevada and Linn playing a mysterious cowboy.
