I Conquered Cancer, but My Family Didn't Show up to Watch Me Ring the Bell – Then My Doctor Ran After Me With a Confession That Made Me Pale

Paige's SUV sat outside.

Cardboard boxes covered the porch. Two contractors were carrying flooring into the living room.

Paige emerged holding paint samples.

"Nora? What are you doing here?"

    She'd informed you.

"I could ask you the same thing."

"We're renovating."

    "Why?"

"Michael and I are moving in with the kids."

I stared at her. "Who gave you permission?"

    Cardboard boxes covered the porch.

"Mom."

"This is my house."

Paige laughed nervously. "What?"

    "Dad left it to me."

Her smile disappeared. "No. Mom said Dad wanted whoever needed it most to have it."

    We're renovating.

"Have you read his will?"

    "No."

"I have spoken to his attorney."

Paige looked toward the contractors. "Can we discuss this privately?"

"Stop the renovation first."

    This is my house.

"Nora, we've already paid deposits!"

    "Then call Mom."

I dialed her myself.
