10. Wash the Bin Periodically
You do not necessarily need to deep-clean an outdoor garbage container every few days.
Instead, inspect it
after collection.
If the inside is dry and clean, little may be required. If you see leaking liquids, stuck food, grease, or a persistent odor, washing the container promptly can prevent a larger problem.
During summer, more frequent inspection may be useful.
Do Bay Leaves Keep Flies Away?
Bay leaves appear frequently in household pest-control tips because of their aroma.
While strong plant odors may influence the behavior of some insects under certain conditions, placing a few bay leaves in a garbage bin should not be expected to reliably prevent flies from reaching exposed food.
A closed lid and sealed garbage bag provide a much stronger physical barrier.
Do Citrus Peels Repel Flies?
Citrus smells pleasant to many people and may temporarily mask some garbage odors, but throwing fresh citrus peels into the trash also adds more organic material that eventually decomposes.
