When she saw the police officers approaching the door, her face went pale.
“Please,” she whispered.
Then she looked them straight in the eye.
“Whatever you hear in there… do not open that door.”
The officers exchanged worried glances.
That warning only heightened their suspicion.
They forced the door open.
A terrible, dank odor immediately filled the room.
Their flashlights slowly swept through the darkness.
One officer took a step forward.
Then another.
And when the beam finally reached the far corner…
