To them, he wasn’t simply “the huge baby” people wanted to hear about.
He was Kevin.
As he grew, his parents tried to give him the same childhood they would have wanted for any child. They encouraged him to develop his own interests, make friends, enjoy school and discover the kind of person he wanted to become.
Of course, his remarkable birth remained part of his story.
People who learned about it were naturally curious, and Kevin’s physical size continued attracting attention as he got older. His height made him stand out, and strangers sometimes asked questions about how big he had been as a baby.
For a child and later a teenager, that attention wasn’t always easy.
Being noticeably different can make someone painfully aware of themselves, particularly during the years when fitting in seems incredibly important. Kevin couldn’t control what strangers noticed, but he gradually realized he could control how much importance he gave their reactions.
Instead of allowing constant questions to embarrass him, he learned to answer them with patience and humor.
