“Are you Ethan Bennett?”
“Yes.”
“We need to speak with you about a domestic violence complaint.”
His face went pale.
Patricia looked at me.
I was standing at the kitchen entrance.
My ankle was still chained.
The entire dining room went silent.
One of the guests whispered:
“Oh my God.”
Ethan looked at me.
“You called the police?”
I nodded.
Then I looked at Patricia.
“And I also sent them the video.”
Her face changed.
Because she suddenly realized the kitchen camera had been recording everything.
The broken suitcase.
The argument.
The chain.
Her telling me to cook.
Everything.
Ethan started shouting.
“You planned this!”
I looked at him calmly.
“No.”
I paused.
“You planned this. I just stopped protecting you from the consequences.”
The paramedic walked toward me.
He helped remove the chain.
Then he asked:
“Where do you need to go?”
I looked at my watch.
There was one message waiting for me.
It was from the hospice.
“Your father is still awake.”
