I did not confront her.

My parents’ praise of Aaron became louder.
My mother told a server that the restaurant finally had real direction. My father described Aaron’s instincts as steady and modern. Each compliment removed another piece of my contribution from the story they were building.
By the end of the month, the decision became official.
My mother called me into the office during a quiet afternoon. She folded her arms and adopted an expression that almost resembled sympathy.
“We’ve been talking,” she began.
My father stood beside her.
“Aaron is going to manage the restaurant for a while,” my mother continued. “You’ve done so much, and we don’t want you exhausting yourself.”
I looked at both of them.
“You’re replacing me for my benefit?”
My father frowned.
“No one said replacing.”
“Who will control the operating decisions?”
“Aaron.”
“The schedules?”
“Aaron.”
“The vendor approvals?”
“She’ll be overseeing those.”
“Then you are replacing me.”
My mother sighed.
“Why do you have to make everything sound negative?”
The office door opened.
Aaron entered holding a folder.
She was smiling before anyone explained the decision, proving she had known about it long before I had been invited into the room.
“I’ve prepared a new operating model,” she said.
She described extended shifts, revised scheduling protocols, new menu ideas, and a management structure that placed every major decision beneath her authority.
The presentation sounded rehearsed.
I listened without interrupting.
Aaron interpreted my silence as approval.
Employees soon began reporting the consequences.
She pushed the kitchen team beyond reasonable hours. She corrected servers sharply in front of customers. She placed inexperienced employees into busy shifts without proper preparation and treated every objection as resistance to her leadership.
I continued maintaining the financial systems still connected to me, but I increased the distance between myself and daily decisions.
