A servant welcomed Malik inside.
Moments later, Zainab entered the room.
Although she remained blind, everything else about her had changed.
She carried herself with quiet confidence.
Her voice was calm.
Her smile was genuine.
She greeted her father warmly.
“Welcome,” she said.
“I hope your journey was comfortable.”
Malik struggled to respond.
The words he had rehearsed during the journey suddenly felt inadequate.
Finally, he spoke.
“I made many mistakes.”
Zainab listened patiently.
“I believed money determined a person’s worth,” he continued.
“I judged people by what they owned.”
His voice trembled.
“I judged my own daughter the same way.”
Tears filled his eyes.
