Police officers threw a handcuffed black woman from a helicopter, unaware that she was armed.

The device lurched sharply, forcing Danielle to grip the straps to keep from slipping on the cold metal floor. Her throat was dry, her mind replaying every step of the evening, desperately searching for what law she could have broken. Yet here she was, handcuffed, suspended thousands of feet above a black swamp with no legal explanation.

The radio crackled briefly, asking for their estimated time of arrival, but the pilot simply switched off the channel without responding. He turned to his partner with a sinister smile, suggesting a slight detour from the planned route. Danielle froze, realizing this detour was unofficial and that her life was now in grave danger.

The younger police officer took out his phone and began filming her trembling face, telling her to relax. She wanted to believe him, but every survival instinct within her screamed otherwise in the face of this utterly surreal and terrifying situation. Her chest ached with fear, and she suddenly thought of her mother’s cautionary advice.

She’d always been told to be respectful to be treated well, but she’d acted correctly and was still prey. The pilot leaned toward the open helicopter door, the wind tearing at his jacket as he looked down. He commented that there were no cameras in the black swamp, an ideal place to dump garbage.
