4. Low Blood Pressure
Metoprolol may lower blood pressure more than intended in some people.
Signs of low blood pressure can include:
dizziness
blurred vision
weakness
confusion
feeling faint
The risk may be greater when metoprolol is combined with other blood pressure medicines.
5. Cold Hands and Feet
Some people notice colder hands or feet while taking metoprolol.
Beta blockers can reduce blood flow to the extremities, making fingers and toes feel unusually cold.
This is usually not dangerous, but persistent pain, major color changes, or worsening circulation problems should be discussed with a doctor.
6. Shortness of Breath or Wheezing
Metoprolol mainly acts on beta-1 receptors in the heart, but at higher doses it can also affect receptors in the lungs.
People with asthma or other breathing conditions may be more sensitive.
Seek medical advice if you develop:
new wheezing
increasing shortness of breath
chest tightness
difficulty breathing
