In 1999, McCarthy reunited with his former college girlfriend, Carol Schneider.
The couple married and welcomed a son, Sam, in 2002 before divorcing in 2005.
He later found love again with Irish writer and director Dolores Rice, whom he married in 2011.
Together they have two children, Willow and Rowan.
Away from the cameras, McCarthy now enjoys a quieter family life in New York while balancing directing, writing, and occasional acting projects.
Looking Back Without Regret
Unlike many actors closely associated with one decade, McCarthy has never been particularly nostalgic about his years as an ’80s icon.
He appreciates the affection fans still have for films like Pretty in Pink, but he doesn’t spend much time reliving that chapter of his life.
Instead, he prefers focusing on the present and the life he built after overcoming addiction.
Today, Andrew McCarthy’s legacy extends far beyond his status as a former teen heartthrob. His story has become one of resilience, personal growth, and reinvention—a reminder that while fame can arrive unexpectedly, true success often comes from finding the strength to rebuild when everything seems ready to fall apart.
