He laughed.
“Is that a threat?”
“No.”
She paused.
“It’s advice.”
The first officer rolled his eyes.
“You people always think you know the law.”
Victoria said nothing.
Then she made a strange request.
“There’s something in the inside pocket of my jacket.”
The officer looked at her suspiciously.
“What?”
“A small leather case.”
He smirked.
“You carrying something we should know about?”
“I think you should take it out.”
The two officers exchanged another amused glance.
“Fine.”
One of them reached into Victoria’s jacket pocket.
His fingers found the case.
He pulled it free.
Small.
Dark leather.
The officer turned it over in one hand.
“What is this?”
Victoria looked at him.
“Open it.”
He did.
The smile disappeared from his face.
