The officer stared at her.
“Routine check.”
Victoria paused.
“A routine check for what?”
His expression hardened slightly.
“Do you have somewhere you need to be?”
“I’m simply asking why I was stopped.”
His partner had now moved closer.
Victoria noticed the shift immediately.
“What’s the issue?” the second officer asked.
“She’s asking questions.”
Victoria looked at him.
“I’m asking for the reason for the stop.”
The first officer leaned toward the window.
“You need to relax.”
“I am relaxed.”
That answer seemed to irritate him even more.
Victoria continued calmly.
“I’d also like your names and badge numbers, please.”
The two officers exchanged a glance.
“Why?”
“Because I’m entitled to know who stopped me.”
The first officer’s jaw tightened.
“You’re making this more difficult than it needs to be.”
Victoria frowned.
“I’ve given you everything you requested. I’m simply asking why I’m being detained.”
The second officer stepped closer.
“Step out of the vehicle.”
Victoria looked from one man to the other.
“For what reason?”
“Get out of the car.”
Her voice remained steady.
“Am I under arrest?”
“Get out.”
