She wrote that she wanted me to have everything when I was ready.

Inside were hundreds of pictures from my mother’s life.
One picture showed her standing proudly in this exact apartment.
The third item was a key that matched the locked door above.
The letter continued: “This apartment is yours to open when the time comes.”
My hands shook as I read every word of the hidden message.
