The Fallout
Accusations flew. "You had a son who died in an accident!" one father shouted, his voice shaking with anger. "You could be a danger to our kids!"
Wade stood frozen, visibly trembling, his gaze flitting from one furious face to another.
I felt my heart racing. This wasn’t who he was now; it was his past. "Stop! He’s trying to make amends. He deserves a chance to heal!"
The uproar escalated, parents shouting over one another. Some wanted to throw Wade out, others wanted to know why he was even allowed in the room.
I could see Wade’s shoulders sinking, and before I could reach out, he abruptly left the podium, his face a mask of anguish.
“Wade, wait!” I cried, but he was already gone, swallowed by the storm of accusations.
I rushed after him, my mind racing with questions. Had I done the right thing? Was he really capable of bringing light to our darkness, or was he just another ghost in this hospital?
Just as I rounded the corner, my breath hitched in my throat. A flash of blue and red caught my eye. Sirens wailed in the distance, and police lights pulsed ominously through the windows.
My heart dropped. Wade’s troubled past was closing in, and I realized I might not be able to save him after all.
