Jack frowned.
"What do you mean?"
"The next morning, the room was empty."
"No body?"
"No blood."
"No signs of escape."
"Nothing."
She walked away without saying another word.

That night curiosity defeated fear.
Jack took the master key and climbed the stairs.
Room 307 stood at the very end of the hallway.
The wallpaper around it looked older than the rest of the hotel.
The air felt colder.
The number on the door seemed darker than the others, almost as if it had been burned into the wood.
He reached for the handle.
Locked.
As he inserted the key...
Someone whispered directly behind his ear.
"Don't."
Jack spun around.
