By the end of the afternoon, enough suitable hair had been collected to begin making Liam’s wig.
The process took nearly two months.
During that time, the school also began changing the way it handled bullying. Complaints were documented rather than dismissed as isolated jokes. Teachers received training on appearance-based harassment and social exclusion. Students were taught that silence could strengthen cruelty and that asking for adult help was not tattling.
The school did not transform overnight. Children still made mistakes. Adults still missed things.
But the excuses began to disappear.
And once adults stopped looking away, the children noticed.
