A person may suddenly drop something, struggle to raise one arm, feel one side of the face droop, or notice that walking feels difficult. The American Stroke Association warns that sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm, or leg is a key stroke symptom, especially when it happens on one side.
Do not wait to see if it improves. Sudden weakness needs urgent medical attention.
2. Trouble Speaking or Understanding Words
Speech problems are another major warning sign. A woman having a stroke may slur her words, speak in a way that does not make sense, or suddenly have trouble understanding what others are saying.
