Brandon’s First Explanation
He answered on the third ring.
His voice sounded strained.
“Cece, I was going to call you.”
“I found the forks.”
There was silence.
“They’re under our son’s mattress,” I continued. “Dozens of them. You told him to hide them and keep it secret from me.”
“It isn’t what you think.”
“I don’t know what to think.”
“It’s only a game.”
“A game?”
“I call it Treasure Knights. The forks are silver swords, and Alex hides them beneath the castle to keep everyone safe.”
