“I loved her before they approached me. I loved the way she finds joy in small things. I loved that she remembers everyone’s favorite dessert. I loved that she believed my childhood promises even when I was still learning what promises meant.”

“I would have married Rosie without a penny. The agreement simply gave me the legal protection and resources to make sure no one could take her choices away.”

The admission hurt.
“I told her after our first anniversary. I couldn’t continue keeping it from her.”
“What did she say?”
“She cried.”
Ben’s mouth lifted in a broken smile.
