Not broken.
Uncovered.
Ryan leaned forward. “I came here because you wouldn’t answer your phone.”
I said nothing.
“You scared Mom half to death,” he continued. “Do you have any idea what you’ve done? The credit cards aren’t working. The mortgage payment didn’t go through. The bank locked me out.”
I tilted my head. “Interesting priorities.”
His jaw tightened. “Don’t do this in front of strangers.”
“Strangers didn’t shave my head while I slept.”
Silence dropped hard.
One MP looked down at the table. The captain’s face did not move, but something in his eyes sharpened.
Ryan swallowed. “That was Mom. Not me.”
“You approved it.”
“I said she went too far.”
“You said hair grows back.”
His face reddened. “Because it does.”
“And forged federal credentials?” I asked. “Do those grow back too?”
He slammed his cuffed hands onto the table. “I am your husband.”
“No,” I said quietly. “You are a suspect.”
The word landed with visible force.
